A satirical novel about the detached youth of Gen-Z America told through the lens of Ricky Ritz, a boisterous amateur social media influencer.

I found "The Influencer" to be one of the funniest books I've ever read. Hands down! Ricky Ritz, with his antics and quirks, made him like any other character I've known. Besides the laugh-out-loud comedy, the book really dives into the negative impact of the social media culture and influencers and how it essentially is unsocial. Using wit and humor, Will Kapfer sends a message about social media influencers and Gen-Z lifestyle and culture, packed with an obsession of clicks in a non-judgmental but well-warranted warning about its negative impacts. I laughed at something on each page of the entire book. "It’s Ricky’s world and we’re just living in it!” 10/10 and highly recommend! I even got the softcover copy, which will look amazing with the rest of my books on my bookshelf!
The author’s writing style made this book a five star for me. He was able to develop a simple yet complex protagonist who, despite all of his downfalls and airheaded antics, was blissfully ignorant of his indirect impact on his world. This creates both a comedic tone and a scarce warning of how ignorance can kill, especially in today’s society. A book with a valuable lesson on how the impact of social media, as we know it so far, can be used for or against us. A moral and ethical dilemma about technology and a culture that is here to stay.
The Influencer reflects how things that once had value are now reduced to commodities in the digital era. Ricky’s journey isn't just about his struggle but also a broader commentary on a generation struggling with the tension between authenticity and the pressures of creating an ideal online persona. The author masterfully captures the empty nature of online validation and the dark consequences of living in a world where influence is everything. The plot builds to a thought-provoking memorial end, leaving readers questioning the true cost of living in a society obsessed with social media. The Influencer is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding Gen Z's complexities and the digital world's profound impact on our perceptions of value and self-worth. This book is not just a story—it's a mirror reflecting the challenges of our time, urging us to seek deeper meaning beyond the superficial.
